Schindler's List

Review - Schindler's List (1993)

Oskar Schindler (Liam Neeson) was a factory owner during World War II who hired Jews in order to save them from the Holocaust. His story is told in the Best Picture winning film, “Schindler’s List.”

To be honest, I have never been a fan of director Steven Spielberg’s work. I have no idea why, because he really has made some of the best films in history. I believe this film has changed my respect for him greatly.

The cinematography, the acting, and especially the music in this film all work so beautifully together. The choice of making the film black-and-white gave it an old, even more tragic feel.

The only problem I have with this movie is the pacing. There are at least two half hour scenes in which all you see are more and more different ways the Jews were tortured and killed. I felt as if the film was trying too hard to display the hell these people lived and died in. It doesn’t really hurt the emotion of the film, but it does make it a bit longer than it needs to be.

“Schindler’s List” is an extremely emotional and, at times, hard to watch film that does very well in capturing the tragedy of the Holocaust. I recommend it to those who have ever studied World War II.
