Pulse (2006)

Very predictable waste of time.

I walked into the theater not expecting much from this film, and that's basically what I got. Not much.
The premise is very tired (paranormal evil invades our computers, brings death and destruction) the plot is convoluted, and the acting is sub-par. Kristen Bell gives a weepy, melodramatic performance, while Christina Milian and Ian Somerhalder are basically extended cameos. The characters are pitifully undeveloped, and the interaction between them is awkward and forced. Unfortunately, I imagine the actors did the best they could with what they were given. The film itself utterly fails to fit the description of a "horror" title. For a movie about malicious ghosts spreading throughout our telecommunications technology, it's hardly scary. Even scenes that are meant to make you jump in your seat fall flat, due to the complete lack of tension in the characters. The best that can be said of this film is that it has moments of mediocre creepiness.Honestly, save your money. If you absolutely have to see it, wait until it's available for rental and save a few bucks. As a friend said when we exited the theater, "On a scale of 'White Noise' to 'The Ring', I give it a 'Fear dot Com'."
