Star Trek V: The Final Frontier

The Very Worst Star Trek Movie
Drive-In Massacre - wrote on 12/23/09

Yeah, it's a close one, but I'm going to have to say William Shanter's Star Trek V: The Final Frontier is the very worst of the series. The story has something to do with Spock's brother Sybok, who ends up taking over the Enterprise and searches for God. I don't really know, I was way too baffled to try to conceptualize anything that was supposed to be going on in this movie...and if anyone tells you that 'film directing is easy and anybody could do it' you say "Bullshit. I've seen Star Trek V!" You can clearly see chaos through out the movie, because there is no director to be found.

Hmmmm....Where do I begin? Well first off, the dialogue and the delivery from every actor makes the writing from the rest of the Star Trek movies seem like they were written and directed by Tarantino... That's the part that gets to me the most; how do you make the acting and writing in a STAR TREK MOVIE even worse!? I was planning on disregarding my criticisms of the dialogue because you're kind of forced to over look that in these types of series, but it can't go ignored in this movie. The film constantly insults the audience's intelligence and assumes that we all have an 8 year old's sense of humor. Most of the jokes come from people falling, people singing, and really corny, cliche jokes (note: I'm sure this will not be the last time you'll see the words "corny" and "cliche" pop up during my Star Trek reviews). I'm not even going to get into to the special effects or the climax of the movie because by the end of the review, I'll probably ignore the spell check tool and the rest will be a long running sentence of nonsensical ravings, screaming about things like "Why is a 56 year old woman luring away hostage takers with seduction?" Yes, that actually happens, the character of Uhura pretends to be an erotic dancer and successfully lures hostage takers her way, even though she was CLOSE TO 60 YEARS OLD AT THE TIME! I'll just end this review with my favorite part of the movie:

Dr. McCoy: We were speculating. Is God really out there?

Cpt. Kirk: Maybe he's not out there, Bones. Maybe he's right here. [points to his heart] Human heart.

...Really?REALLY!?
