Attack of the 50 Foot Woman (1958)

Attack of the Really Bad Movie

"Attack of the 50 Ft. Woman" is a truly awful movie. The film clocks in at 66 minutes, but it felt like it took three hours to get through it.

The plot involves a love triangle in which a husband (William Hudson) is having an affair with a sleazy woman (Yvette Vickers), which is making his wife (Allison Hayes) mentally unstable. As if that isn't enough, the wife encounters a spacecraft piloted by a giant alien, but her reports of the encounter just make her look more insane.

As a result of her encounter with the alien, the wife grows into a giant herself. We finally see the 50 foot woman in the last 10 minutes of the movie when she goes on a rampage to seek revenge on her husband and his lover.

I watched this movie, along with several other B-movies from the 1950s, with my children to give them a little historical perspective on the upcoming FreamWorks movie "Monsters v Aliens". Bad choice.

As always, I tracked the tobacco use in this film for my SmokeScreeners project. This film received a SmokeScreeners rating of 4 Butts. For more information on the impact of onscreen smoking on youth tobacco use, visit www.smokescreeners.org.
