Well, once again I am convinced...there is NOTHING like the original, and once again let me reiterate, there are SPOILERS in this review so DO NOT READ if you don't want to know what happens!!!!!!!
Okay, I just saw the sneak preview at Marquee Theaters up at Southridge, WV. My buddy Shawn, his girl, and their two friends met me there and we sat down to watch the remake by Rob Zombie.
First off, i went in with certain expectations (duh!) and for the most part, those expectations were met. We start off seeing how Michael lives. He is the victim of SEVERE mental abuse from the scumbag, foul-mouthed loser that his stripper Mom has living with them. The creep talks filthy profane trash to the Mom 98% of their conversations, he comments on Michael's older sister's body, and does his best to make Michael feel like an out and out peice of crap...oh yeah, all this while a little baby is in the kitchen with them. Can I just take a second to say that I don't agrre much anymore with an overuse of profanity in a movie or even a particular scene but hey, if it fits the character, then fine...HOWEVER, it really burns me when people shoot these scenes with CHILDREN in the room or even worse (as in this case) has the children use the same language. Anyway, so yeah, you begin to see that Michael has no home life whatsoever! He gets picked on at school and swears at the Principal so the Principle calls the Mom in. During their meeting we meet Dr. Loomis (Malcolm McDowell) who suggests Michael be put in therapy. Michael runs, finds the kid who beat him up and kills him in the woods. That night (Halloween) Michael has had enough, he kills the abusive waste of space guy, his sister's boyfriend, and his sister. The Mom comes home, the police come, Michael goes away. We see he and Loomis' interaction throughout a period, the Mom kills herself and we fwd to present (John Carpenter) Halloween night. Now the cool thing here is that the story, again, for the most part, sticks to the original storyline with a few nice twists. What is GREAT about what Rob Zombie did here was...WE GET TO SEE THE THINGS WE DIDN'T GET TO SEE with Carpenter's version! Anyway, from this point, a few differences are made and I won't reveal the end, but it was pretty freaky. All in all, I was satisfied but not impressed! One thing that I did think was very cool though: Remember Little Jamie (the girl in the clown suit from Halloween 4 and 5?? SHE is actually one of Lori's friends in this one. Pretty neat. But as I said before there is NOTHING like...The Original HALLOWEEN! I recommend, but for goodness sake, leave the kids with a babysitter! Thanx for reading, feel free to comment! God bless yall! Halloween is a horrible throwaway movie. Your review follows this pattern.

Okay, I got you. I did dig that. Though, I think he should have given a little more time for character development on some of the girls.

Good review, without having see it yet, I can't really comment on the necessity of the vulgarity in the scenes with the abusive man and the children being present. While morally I object to that treatment in real life, movies I hold in a different ideal, if there are scenes that are considered to be reprehensible and children are cast in those scenes it is up to the director and to the parents and agents of the child in the scene to ensure that they are well aware that it is an act, and not to …

It wasn't as focused on Lori's POV as it was the other things surrounding Carpenter's story. (Loomis and the Sheriff at the station, Loomis at the cemetary, Michael actually coming home, how he got there, what he did WHEN he got there, etc) It was DEF different, but it was as though we were seeing the same story from another perspective...that's how I took it anyway.

I'm curious, I just saw this last night; and am an avid Halloween series fan. What did we see in this Halloween that we didn't get to see in Carpenter's? This comment is going over my head.
