Cairo Time

3.5/4 stars

Juliette goes to Cairo to meet her husband on vacation. Instead of leaving her in Cairo alone, her husband sends an old work friend, Tareq, to greet her. Their first meeting leads to more which eventually sparks intimacy. The film centers around the idea of forbidden love. Clarkson and Siddig portray that idea through a visual and verbal waltz. Through dialogue and body language, they're able to bring breath into Juliette and Tareq in a subtle yet believable way. Nadda helps that along by showcasing Egypt, the soundtrack, and the necessary silence in a way that complements the performance. The film is sadly stunted by the ending, which is jarring to say the least. Still, Cairo Time is a beautiful film. A must-see for any fan of romance.
