Frankenstein (1931)

3/4 stars

For the time, I'm sure Frankenstein was scary. The story showed the depth needed for that, certainly, though the ending left a little more to be desired. All the characters were likable in their own ways, which I appreciated given the tone of the original story. However, I wish there was more depth to the monster. Although his lack of understanding was clear, I would've liked to see him grow into something else by the end of the film, much like the novel did. Speaking of, I do try to separate novels from their movie adaptations because they're two different mediums. However, naming Victor Frankenstein "Henry" and then keeping a Victor in the film was very confusing to me. Despite those flaws, Frankenstein is still a great horror classic.
