Skyfall

Creative Revival of an Otherwise Dying Series

No matter how good a Bond film made nowadays is, it will never live up to the standards of the massive series of films the character has produced. However, Skyfall is the closest thing we will ever get. That is not a bad thing though, as Skyfall is one of the best pure action films I have seen in a long time (since 2010, only "Drive" (2011), and "Inception" (2010) have been better, and that is great company to be in).

The best quality of the film is the creativity of its action sequences. Sure, the Bond films have always contained highly unusual, and often impractical chase and fight scenes, and Skyfall starts out with the same, however, if another Bond film had the guts to pull out the plot twist you see a mere 10-15 minutes in, I haven't seen it. Among other points of interest are a deadly accuracy test, a second massive surprise at the end (another place the screenwriter shows his guts) and the best single quick action sequence I have ever seen in a movie ( a fight done in one camera shot with the characters as silhouettes. Beautiful.)

Main criticism: Javier Bardem plays an excellent villain, chilling in his clear coldheartedness. However, he reminded me of Heath Ledgers joker if he was a computer hacker. Originality is always key for me. After that, I don't see much to pick on.

Action lovers rejoice! Skyfall is a real treat for admirerers of the genre. As a bond fan, quantum of solace really made me think the series had died, but Skyfall has brought it back with a vengeance.

10/10, (#1 on my "Best Movies of 2012 list, #4 on my "Best Films of the 2010's list (so far)).
