The Boy (2016)

Unintentional Comedy

'The Boy' is a routine, non-scary PG-13 horror/thriller released in January. Do I really need to say more? You know going in that this won't be good. In the film's defense, the directing manages to hold everything together as we plod along this inept story. There is an attempt at slow-build atmosphere in the way that the old house and the boy doll are shot. It's a somewhat admirable effort in what is otherwise a suspense-less trek of uninspired jump scares. The silly premise had me giggling often. It's right on the edge of parody. The 'big twist' of the movie was the highlight of unintentional laughter. It's SO STUPID. The revelation made me laugh out loud in the theater. When taking into account all of the events that have happened previously throughout, it is not conceivable in the slightest. I give points to everyone involved for trying. It's kind of enjoyably bad.
