The Best of Me

'The Best' Unintentional Comedy

Another movie based on a Nicholas Sparks novel. And it's another stinker full of the exact same tropes being presented ever so very slightly different. The movie simultaneously shows the before and after of this couple's relationship, their high school days of first love and their current twenty years later reunion. Every single thing that happens in this movie could be considered the most predictably cliched and cheesy situations assembled for a romantic story. And they all play out in the most cliched and cheesy fashion through the acting and direction. There was no getting emotionally involved in this relationship. No, it got so silly that it turned into a hilarious unintentional comedy. It was tiresome for the many shortcomings, but I wound up laughing continuously. Can't say I was bored or plain aggravated. This movie is straight up DUMB.
