Daddy's Home

Underwhelming Comedic Re-Team

'Daddy's Home' is the second comedy pairing of Ferrell and Wahlberg. I was slightly looking forward to this, as their last collaboration ('The Other Guys') I found to be solidly funny. Such is not the case here. This entire movie is based around a central sketch scenario that repeats in various forms, with dumb one-liners sprinkled in for added affect. The main (and only) conceit of the film is to have Wahlberg's character continuously emasculate Ferrell's character while they are both competing for the affection of the wife and kids. Everything here is thin backdrop for the jokes, most of which aren't funny. It looks as if there's effort being put forth. Only problem is the gags just don't work. There were some random amusing moments. The only solid laughs I got were all thanks to Thomas Haden Church. He had the best lines. This wasn't a totally bad watch, just very underwhelming.
