The Stanford Prison Experiment

Provocative Truths
Unknown - wrote on 12/21/15

Based on the actual experiment conducted on Stanford students, this dark drama explores the unnerving truths found during a prison simulation. Despite this makeshift prison not being real, the guards and inmates act the parts accordingly when they are given free-reign. The boys on guard naturally assume an authoritative role and abuse their powers, while the inmates feel all the distress put on them as if it were mandatory. The shocking nature of the movie is felt through the realistic setting and strong performances from the entire young cast. It's a tense drama that brings up many psychological questions worth dissecting. It's fascinating subject matter that makes for an entertaining watch and thoughtful discussion afterwards. I may prefer the handling of this subject matter in the film 'Compliance' (also closely based on a true event), due to it's even further unpleasantness, but this one is just as well done. It's an eye opening provocative experience.
