'Cooties' is a slightly inventive comedy set in the realm of infection zombie horror. The premise of a virus only affecting pre-pubescent age individuals makes for some creative twists on seen-before scenarios. Nothing here is taken serious. Constant joke delivery ensures that we are in for a silly farce from beginning to end. Surprisingly, the R rating is more than justified between the swearing, sexual references, and gory moments. This is one of those rare movies that makes kids unlikable and has the balls to kill them in bloody fashion. It's enough to make this stand out from the now crowded zombie comedy genre. Some brief character moments involving a sort of 'love triangle' stop the craziness, at times. They weren't necessary, but still could've been incorporated better. Also, there is a definite lack of a solid ending. Feels a little unfulfilling given that certain story altering plot points were just introduced not long before the credits. Those points don't debunk the stupid fun I had while watching. It only makes this film stop just shy of being a memorable gem. I got some good laughs, and that's what matters.
