The Maze Runner

Lots of Running

I don't like being the person who automatically says: "The book was better". But in this case it's the truth. Not to say that the film is a bad adaptation. It's good in some areas. The mystery stays intact. The action is mildly exciting. The minor plot changes compliment the swift pace. Though, the pace is actually way too swift. We don't get near enough time with the characters. We become less involved with their personal struggle. A longer runtime could've helped. Some crucial story omissions are sorely missed. Some important explanations are gone. Those not familiar with the material will be lost in some scenes. It also shares the same predictable ending as the novel, which didn't bother me as much having expected it. It's a real mixed effort. The more I thought about it after, the less I cared. Worth a rent for anyone who's curious and did not read the novel. Fans shouldn't bother.
