Captain America: The Winter Soldier

True American Hero

'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' goes above and beyond the call of duty for the average superhero film. It is, in equal measure, an exciting action spectacle and an intriguing political thriller. The mystery that drives the plot is involving to the point where it almost becomes subversive to the politics of today's world. There's a strong connection to present day reality brought out in these governmental issues. This adds to the surprising amount of drama already present, as we see the Captain struggle morally with the actions of his authorities and, in turn, becomes an enemy of the state. There are strong connections to the first Captain America film and to the Marvel movie universe, so much to the point of radically shifting the entire course of this massive interconnected franchise. Major dramatic moments between characters (including deaths) had me way more emotionally involved than I've been previously with any other film in the series. The stakes are so high that it makes the already exciting action scenes even more dangerous. The Captain himself seems more fallible, partially because he has found an equal physical opponent in The Winter Soldier. He is one badass villain! The two share some HARD hitting fights that leave serious injury. The mystery surrounding this character adds a great deal to Captain's personal journey. I just love everything about this film. It's one of the best superhero sequels, period. As a standalone film, it's THE best of the solo outings in the Avengers series. DO NOT miss it!
