Mud

A Very Entertaining Drama

Mud is a surprisingly good drama about two boys and their friend named Mud. The movies plot consists of the two boy’s trying to get Mud, who is wanted for murder, together with his girl without him getting caught by the family of the man he killed, who are out for blood, and the police.

The movie is pushed forward by the threat of violence and the danger that goes along with it, but it is really a coming of age story. One of the boy’s parents are going through a divorce, and he is depending on Mud to teach him that love can last. That same lad has also gotten himself a girlfriend and hopes that he can succeed where he believe his parents have failed.

Mud was directed by Jeff Nichols, the same guy who directed 2011’s Take Shelter, and while this isn’t as good as that film its still shows that Mr. Nichols is a director to watch for. I am already anticipating his next film.

The movie may not do anything shockingly original, but it still has a fantastic lack of cliché. It is filled with intrigue, and also provides the audience a good deal to think about as they exit the theater. Its good old fashioned no frills filmmaking with more then a few three dimensional characters, some awesome performances and a grade-A plot. I highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.
