21 & Over

21 and Over is Redundant

I thought this movie was pretty funny, in fact I kind of liked it while I was watching it, but about half way through my first viewing I realized I liked it better when I had seen it before and it was called Harold and Kumar go to White Castle, the second time I saw it and it was called The Hangover and possibly most of all when I saw it and it was called Superbad. The point I’m making here is that this sort of “one crazy night” movie has been done half-way to death.

There are just too many cliché’s. there’s a bromance, just like every other movie of this type and there are crazy parties just like every other movie of this type. Sure the movies I mentioned before like Harold and Kumar and The Hangover have a lot of those cliché things, but at the same time they added something new to the formula; 21 and Over, on the other hand does not bring much new to the table.

While I have no problem with recycling clichés into something new, there isn’t much new about 21 and Over, only cliché. The movie works on multiple levels, but it works in the exact same way that other, better movies have also worked. In the end it’s just too redundant for my taste, but if you’re a bigger fan of this type of movie then I am, then you’ll probably like it fine.
