Reality (2012)
Reality and Italian Politics
3.5/4 stars

It’s a comedy drama narrated by Luciano’s perspective. Luciano is a fish vendor in Napoli that becomes crazy while waiting for his chance to enter in the house of the Big Brother.
The problems with “Reality” was majorly that it wasn’t directly and explicitly political. The political narrative in this movie is strong but harder to understand because it’s definitely implicit. The whole movie is a denounce against Berlusconi in that he is “responsible for recalibrating the nation’s values, turning reality TV stardom into the nation’s most in demand ‘career’”1. Many in Italy argue that Berlusconi has created this social disease in that his TV company, Mediaset, one of the most important in Italy, produces the Big Brother show every year. As Karina Longworth states in her article “As a satirical portrait of this era and this disease, ‘Reality’s’ real subversion is in preserving a moment of madness for future generations. The political importance of the movie lies outside the realm of the story, it is an only politically driven movie but it fails in being clear about its main subject, Berlusconi.
Its a great movie, and I would advise everyone to watch it!
