I Am Legend

A deserted Manhattan...could this be???

Although not having seen anything recent or new if you will lately i have been re watching films on tv that i rate and respect quite admirably. 'I Am Legend' just happens to fall in that category and was on the other evening. I have nothing but the utmost respect for actor Will Smith. Starting out as a rapper who won 4 Grammy awards then made a risky career change to actor starring in tv's 'The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air' which proved to be one of the smartest career changes that i can recall then jumping into a space craft and blowing the box office too bits with 'Independence Day' In short..there is no realm that this man cannot conquer..cut and dry! His performance in 'I Am Legend' is prime example of why he is the only actor to have 8 films of his be number one at the box office upon opening weekend.

Smith portrays viroligist Lt. Col. Robert Neville who after a supposed cure for cancer ends up going array, starting a virus all over the city of Manhattan that turns unsuspecting citizens into zombies with vampire like tendencies, leaves Neville the last immune human who spends his days alone along with his loyal and only friend in the world, a german shephard named 'Sam' performing experiments to try and find a cure to the apocolyptic plague. With fantastic/realistic CGI incorporated into this film we see his' day' trips outside under the protective uv rays of the sun all alone in a post apocalyptic and deserted Manhatten (I have never personally visited either Manhattan nor the city of N.Y. although have seen it many times on the news) that seems strange without a 1000 yellow topped cabs or noisy city life not running through it. Everyday he is hoping to find some sort of life left or a cure for the nasty virus.

Although Hollywood having definatly worn out this zombie/plague I Am Legend breathes new life into this genre with solid acting by Smith as well as realistically placed CGI to make this one of the more memorable films of his illustrious career!
