Salmon Fishing in the Yemen

Cute but superficial

The film was cute. Casting was cute. Kristin Scott-Thomas was amazing. And that is all positive I can say - story wasn't really brilliant. At times I caught myself thinking how could the filmmakers be so insensitive to today's situation - as this is no toilet humor comedy - and make a film about such a dream as is salmon fishing in the Yemen. Yes they tried to portrait the benefices the local populace would get from that, but didn't really manage to escape from the superficiality of the cover story. Because, from the very start you hear how much they were going to spend for that project. Let it be sheikh's money and only estimates that might have been exaggerated, but the sum anyway sounded outrageously huge if you are aware of so many better investments that might have been done for improvement of the living standards in Africa and Asia.
Aside these environmental and global economy issues, the story between our main characters didn't develop well either. I mean... I didn't feel with them some good chemistry. He is after all a married man who might have reconciled with his wife, and she is so... Well, Miss Blunt is extraordinarily beautiful, but looks eternally sad, in every possible situation, in every film I've seen with her. I am afraid that really starts to annoy me :/
