Point Break (1991)

Stylish and Cool

As far as action movies go, this one is stylish and cool. The cast is fine, the acting is okay, not spectacular, but the story is interesting and is a break from the standard action fare. Throughout the film, you can see the parallels between FBI Agent Johnny Utah (Reeves) and bank robber Bodhi (Swayze) and how they learn to respect each other, despite being on opposite sides of the law. Gary Busey is his usual eccentric self, appearing as Utah's older and more experienced partner Angelo Pappas. John C. McGinley is the angry and foulmouthed FBI Director Ben Harp.

What makes this film work is its cinematography and visual style. The surfing scenes are outstanding, a testament to director Kathryn Bigelow, who would go on to win an Academy Award for the Hurt Locker. Overall the film is a pleasure to watch and is highly recommended to any series fan of the action/adventure genre.
