Quick Review --- The movie was directed by James Wan, who is an expert at building suspense and maintaining a very creepy mood. The Conjuring, skillfully made and suspenseful as hell, is Wan's best and scariest film. Right from the get go, we feel uneasy. The first half is slow building, which is good because it allows time to establish the plot and the setting and develop the characters while still providing genuine scares. The tension is continuously building as strange things happen both to and around the Perron family. It's not until the second half of the film, when Ed and Lorraine Warren investigate the house, when things start to get bug nuts insane. All of that crackling tension explodes into dynamites of intensity as it builds to a jaw-droppingly awesome climax. The Conjuring explores familiar elements, but it's crafted with style and delivers terrific scares. The film is well directed, really well acted, and well worth seeing on the big screen with a crowd.
