Oscar (played by Will Smith) is the ultimate nobody who dreams of being "on the top of the reef." He gets his opportunity when he runs into Lenny (Jack Black) a black-sheep shark who is hiding out from his father, Don Lino. Oscar realizes he can take advantage of this and makes up a story that instantly brings him fame and fortune, winning the heart of a beautiful but shallow lion fish, Lola much to the objection of Angie who secretly has a crush on Oscar.

Meanwhile Don Lino, angered over the loss of his son, vows to find a way to get to him and make him pay. Things become more complicated when Angie finds out the truth.

This animated movie really has what it promises, a lot of laughs, great animation and there are a lot of supporting voices such as Ziggy Marley and Doug E Doug as two "Rastafarian" jellyfish bodyguards for director Martin Scorceses' character "Sykes," Robert DeNiro as a mafia boss, the luscious Angelina Jolie as Lola, Jack Black as Lenny, the misunderstood shark who wants to eat plants instead of animals, Katie Couric as news reporter Katie Current and Renee Zellwegger as Angie. It's exhilarating to watch De Niro and Scorsese gently spoof themselves for an hour and a half. No masterpiece but definitely not a waste of time!
