Swinging with the Finkels

Is swinging really the way to go????

A film that shows no matter how much chemistry you have at the beginning of your relationship unless you keep working at it…...the magic is liable to dwindle and die. This movie like their relationship starts out great and tries to be original but then it loses focus half way and becomes yet another clichéd romantic comedy about a couple struggling to keep their marriage alive. If you are expecting to see a lot of “swinging” here be advised that is the least of what you’ll actually get.

Swinging with the Finkels focuses on an Englishman Alvin Finkel (Martin Freeman) and his American wife Ellie (Mandy Moore) who live in London, and after a 9 year marriage the heady sparks of lust and fun have sadly faded and they're left with the day to day normality of their everyday life. When their friend Peter (Jonathan Silverman) admits that he cheated on his wife Janet (Melissa George), the Finkels are determined not to let this happen to them.

But what can they do to add some spice to their ailing sex life and re-ignite the sparks they once felt towards each other???? After debating what they can do to save their marriage, Ellie hits upon the brilliant idea to liven things up by having sex with another couple.

The couple embarks on finding the ideal couple and begins to interview potential swingers before settling on what seem to be the ideal couple Richard (Angus Deayton) and Clementine (Daisy Beaumont), who have similar interests and the same marital problems as them. But after a night with Richard and Clementine, the Finkels realize that this dream scenario might not be the key to reviving their relationship.

There are quite a few laugh out loud moments in this movie and after watching this film and the 2012 movie Hope Springs with Tommy Lee Jones and Meryl Streep…..cucumbers and bananas will always make me smile.
