A Perfect Murder (1998)

Money, sex, deceit, betrayal!

“Here’s to stolen moments”

A ruthless Wall Street businessman Steven Taylor (Michael Douglas) finds out that his gorgeous much younger wealthy wife Emily (Gwyneth Paltrow) is having an affair with a penniless painter who also happens to be an ex-con David Shaw (Viggo Mortensen). Instead of trying to get even with the artist, Douglas hires him to murder Paltrow for a half million dollars! And he accepts!! It looks like a perfect murder, but it`s not, because it fails.
A real good start that leaves the mind buzzing! Will he do it? Is it a part of a deeper scam? Is Paltrow in on it? I must admit that it kept me watching and constantly being caught off-guard for the next surprise.

This film keeps you at the edge of your seat and Douglas' portrayal of a heartless blackmailer is chilling as is the spooky music. I would have given it a perfect score but why in the world would the writers expect us to believe that a wife would get out of her comfortable, relaxing bath and trek all the way into the kitchen to answer the telephone? In homes like that there would be phones everywhere - especially in the bathrooms and we've already seen the main characters grabbing their cordless/cell phones right and left and center.
