The Thomas Crown Affair (1999)

Very Slick and Smart!

Pierce Brosnan puts in a superb performance as the billionaire looking for a little more excitement in his life. To alleviate his boredom he steals fine art. His latest snag is a rare Monet worth over $100 million. The crime is seemingly untraceable, leaving the police, headed by Detective Michael McCann (Denis Leary) with few clues and no leads that is until a flashy insurance investigator Catherine Banning (Rene Russo) decided to infiltrate his life and get back the Monet (her incentive is a percentage of its value). Thus begin the mind games which pervade the remainder of the movie.

I enjoyed the character of Thomas Crown and Brosnan fit the part like a glove, with his good looks and ever so cool persona. It reminded me a lot of James Bond (but with less action). Rene Russo adds a definite sparkle, energy, and charisma with her performance and Dennis Leary was equally impressive in his role as well. Recommended if you like a crime caper highly-charged romance with delectable twists and turns!
