Jason Bourne is living off the grid but when Nicky Parsons hacks the C.I.A. mainframe and uncovers information about his father, he returns to the U.S.A. to find answers. Jason Bourne - or more accuratelyy Bourne IV: The Revenge - is pretty much exactly what I was expecting. Matt Damon with rucksack in hand is pursued by earnest looking men with earpieces, biff baff boff he dispatches them and disappears. He flies to another exotic location, he is pursued by earnest looking men with earpieces, biff baff boff he dispatches them and disappears. Et cetera. There is some attempt to address some of the issues of the digital age - namely the right to privacy and the dubious morality of mass surveillance - and there is a flashy finale that is so over the top it felt like a refugee from a Terminator film, but otherwise Jason Bourne felt like a band reunion tour. All of the original ingredients are there so fans can't help but enjoy seeing their old favourites once more, but somewhere along the line the old magic has disappeared. An enjoyable enough retread of old ground, but anyone hoping that the latest instalment will bring anything fresh or new to the table will be disappointed.
