Marebito is a wonderful weird drama with horror elements in it. It got the documentary feel to it as the lead actor record everything he experience on his camera, but what this movie does right and so many others do wrong, is that when necessary the camera use change to “normal”. The special effects in this movie were modest but well used.
The strength of this movie is the story. It’s dark and it’s nasty, but it’s told well. As in most Japanese movies in this genre the protagonist make pretty much every decision opposite of what normal functioning human beings would, but that comes with the territory.
