Beowulf (1999)

Silly Martial Arts Movie but Lambert is Awesome
Dark Vengeance 9 - wrote on 08/26/11

This retelling of the West Saxon epic is designed to be nothing more than a fun Action/Martial Arts movie with Christopher Lambert playing a cool action hero who fights the giant beast Grendel. The movie is pretty silly for its weapons; people have night scopes, crossbows, mechanical swords, and more over the top gadgets. It is supposed to be a future that's like a medieval culture. This is by far Christopher Lambert's coolest role; there is also a lot of gore, female nudity, and decent special effects (except for the end monster). The movie is actually really good until the end when one of the worst CGI monsters ever placed in a film makes its appearance. That alone changed my review from 4.0 to 3.5. If you like Christopher Lambert, martial arts movies, or over the top action films, give Beowulf 1999 a chance.
