Iron Man 3

Summer Blockbuster redefined with fun

The final Iron Man film is out with a bang, Though light hearted and more dramatic, but the action sets up all the fun. Crazy, hardly believable, but has a punch and care that looks really a super summer film tailor made. Director Shane Black (known for Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Lethal Weapon) does not overload the film with too much non sensical action, but keeps the plot on the move as the finale sets up with the right tension, nerve rattling action pieces and the wanted humor at the right moments. This is the summer film that earns a great view. The action set pieces (air plane rescue, war machines, or the Malibu assault), are really breath taking and charged up by Tyler’s bombastic score. Shane knows how to keep the hints on and wait the surprises are out there at the right moment and though does not keep that much logic in store, but do we care logic in summer films? I don’t. What I need is a super ride of non stop action with heart, weight and humor at times. This film gave all the three. Slightly I will be disappointed, with the misuse of certain talents and characters. Hey I am not revealing any spoilers here. People who have watched the film, would understand my point.

Downey Jr (again as the interesting hero of mechanical heart) excels on screen. Every part of him in the screen puts the weight. Paltrow (a more caring Potts) this time, looks a bit cheesy in her role and wow! I did not expect that to come at the end. Nice work Shane. Rebecca Hall (a new character, Maya) is a surprise addition. Cheadle (as the Patriot) gives the necessary chemistry with Downey. Few bad choices (Ben Kingsley, as the Mandarin—really funny). Guy Pearce (Okay, just a bit sub dued in the characterization and his original form). Keep the choices aside. If you are a great Iron Man fan, and you were disappointed with the previous film, then it is a relief. What I liked is, the film was not being too CGI, but more on the character understanding and a plot (not the Mandarin stuff, but the Stark story that gave me a think about it). How it ended is really a way to go. Iron Man 3 is charged up for a summer ride. Sit tight, set the impulse on and feel the Downey factor coming through. This film did not really knock me off, but holds all the aces right. A film that deserves summer escapism, redefines a statement blockbuster.
