I Felt Like I Was Watching the TV Show

How many good TV series movies are any good. I am trying to think and I can't think of a whole lot other than First Contact - in which it took them about 7 tries to get a more interesting piece of work than many of the Star Trek TV shows.
The same applies to the Simpsons. Remember about 5 years ago when every episode was great? I thought I had just gotten old then I realized that everyone felt the same as I do. The movie is actually not bad. It provides a lot of laughs and some interesting moments. But does it do anything new? No. Does it make us feel like we are watching a movie? No. I felt like I could have stayed home and seen the same show on tv next Sunday night.
They basically had two choices: wait until the series was canceled or create something new out of something old. The first choice gives them the advantage that Star Trek had. You won't be able to watch them again on TV so you maybe you could tell the back story, the history in an interesting way. With the second option at least come of with some better themes. A spider pig? Ok, I admit it was funny, but that is the best they have for new concepts and characters!
All of this said I am not a huge Simpsons fan, at least not of late (Family Guy is much better!). I would put this one on par with South Park the Movie. Note to executives, unless all you want is to make money, wait until your series is canceled to make an innovative new twist on your old merchandise. This is why movies cost and tv doesn't.

I agree with you here, I think the opening scene said exactly what many were thinking after having watched it.."Why did I pay to see something I can watch at home for free?"
The down side of the Simpsons seems to be that the writers have all gone in the direction that if they don't try to keep up with Family Guy then they will fail. Over the last few Seasons they have put in more randomness into their episodes than they ever did... while some of it works, a lot of it just seems like they are …

Other series that had good movies: X-Files, Firefly, Batman, and the Fugitive.
