Though, the majority of my personal Top Ten list this year shares little resemblance to the Best Picture nominees (when does it ever), I'm still very pleased with the Academy's choices.  I've seen 7 of the 9 films selected and can say that I find them all to be great and worthy of statues.  I do hope that 'Silver Lining's Playbook' wins at least one award, as it is my favorite film of 2012.  I absolutely love it. 01/12/2013

Yes Silver Linings Playbook was certainly a fantastic movie and I hope it takes home some oscars too! My predictions are though that Life of Pi and Argo will battle each other for Best Picture with Lincoln, Silver Linings Playbook and Zero Dark Thirty as close contenders. Would be fun if Django Unchained took the top award though. 01/19/2013

Can’t predict everything since I haven’t watched most of those listed.  So I tried my luck with the major categories.  Made this list based on my reviews/opinions.

Best Picture:

"Life of Pi" (Just too gorgeous, funny, touching, with a great twist that can be watched countless times.  Though I prefer Django over the others, Life of Pi can get it.  Too bad no Moonrise Kingdom and The Impossible).

Best Director:

Quentin Tarantino! oh he isn't included.  I'll go for Ang Lee or Spielberg.  But Affleck maybe a sleeper.

Best Actor:

Hugh Jackman, "Les Miserables" (He would be robbed if he didn't get it!)

Best Actress:

Naomi Watts, "The Impossible" (Oh common!)

Best Supporting Actor:

Could go to Alan Arkin, "Argo" or Tommy Lee Jones, "Lincoln"

Best Supporting Actress:

Anne Hathaway, "Les Miserables"(Just spectacular)

Best Original Screenplay:

"Moonrise Kingdom" (At least give Wes this! You missed it in several categories including best picture!)

Best Adapted Screenplay:

"Silver Linings Playbook" (Also a tough one but Silver for this category for me)

Best Animated Feature:

"Wreck-It Ralph" (just enjoyed this too much)

Best Visual Effects:

Tough, it's gotta be between "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey"

& "The Avengers"

Best Cinematography:

"Life of Pi" (This one is not even close, for me though)

Best Costume Design:

"Les Miserables"

Best Film Editing: "Argo"

Best Makeup and Hairstyling: "Les Miserables"- (Wasn't too impressed with the make-up on Hitchcock)

Best Music (Original Score):

"Life of Pi"

Best Music (Original Song):
"Everybody Needs A Best Friend" from "Ted" (Gotta give some love for Ted)

Best Production Design:

"The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey"

 Best Sound Editing: "Skyfall"

Best Sound Mixing:

"Les Misérables"

I'm probably going to have my predictions up after Thursday, once I've seen Beasts of the Southern Wild. Granted, I still haven't seen Life of Pi or Amour, but I think 7/9 is good enough to make an informed decision. 01/29/2013
