So it's take a shot for every Scorsese mention -  I'm behind!

Best Documentary Short Subject goes to:

Saving Face

Based on the subject matter alone, I'm glad it won.

The Bridesmaids make dirty jokes and then present for Best Short Film (Live Action) to:

The Shore

I don't keep track of these short subjects. But the speech was quite entertaining.

And now Original Screenplay - and this one goes to:

Midnight in Paris

Well, it certainly was original and I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected, so yes, Woody Allen totally deserves this one.

Angelina Jolie for Best Adapted Screenplay - and, it goes to:

The Descendants

Ah, local boy does good! Alexander Payne, my fellow Nebraskan, at least will go home with one award for the night. I still have to see this film, I really wanted to early on, but simply missed my shot. And hey, shout-out to Omaha (and mom). Now that's just a great guy.

Ah, two funny guys presenting for a whopping two original songs (seriously, two? WTF, really?) Best Original Song goes to:

Man or Muppet from The Muppets

Man, they didn't even get to perform the song (though Kermit and Miss Piggy made an appearance). Good job - hopefully next year we'll be able to have a few more to choose from.

He go number 14, Best Original Score goes to:

The Artist

No surprises here - it was a silent film, the music pretty much "spoke" for the actors. If there was one award I know I would give to The Artist, it would be this one (even if I secretly was hoping John Williams would win again - my favorite movie composer of all time).

Melissa Leo announces the 13th award of the night Best Supporting Actor to:

Christopher Plummer (Beginners)

In what has to be the biggest non-surprise of the night, Plummer becomes the oldest person to win an acting award. It was a long time coming, but Plummer certainly deserves the praise. Plus, one of the better speeches of the night. Bravo good sir.

Oh Melissa McCarthy, you devil, you. And Emma Stone makes a great presenter too - love Jonah Hill's response - whether it was planned or not, perfect.

Anyway number 12, Best Visual Effects goes to:

Hugo

I was really pulling for Rise of the Planet of the Apes, seeing how the entire film rode on how well you bought the special effects. Instead Hugo gets its fifth award for night. Whatever else happens with the big awards, it looks like Hugo is going to walk away with the most awards of the night.

A bit of an upset in the Documentary feature. Paradise Lost 3 was a slight favorite but Undefeated has really caught on in the last few weeks, so not a huge surprise.

I also saw the guy fall in the Cirque de Solei bit, but I was spending more time trying to figure out why the hell this was in the show to begin with. To title it as "what we experience at the movies" was just weird.
