Thanks. Your review is about what I'd expect from the movie. I have no idea what Spielberg was thinking. And I have to agree with you about John Williams lately. His stuff has gone downhill. I'm hoping they both get it together for Lincoln. 01/27/2012

"I can't remember a year when I was more disappointed in the Academy nominations.  The more I think about it, and how predictable the winners will be, just makes me irate."

I'm actually a bit happier this year. The winners of the big awards are going to be a little predictable, but I think they'll also be more deserving than in previous years. There were several movies I thought were better than The King's Speech last year. And, while I really like Colin Firth, I didn't think his performance was the best. Same thing for Sandra Bullock a couple years ago. This is the first time in a while I don't think the overall favorites are completely overrated.

Jase, glad you are okay with it.  It's not that I don't find most of the nominations/wins worthy of recognition.  It's that there are always others left out that I feel deserve it more.  This year seems to have more un-worthy nominations and snubs, in my eyes. 01/27/2012

I think Dragon Tattoo not being nominated was a huge snub. Its that one epic movie that the academy goes after. I mean how could they choose War Horse over it? 01/27/2012

50/50, Dragon Tattoo, Drive, Harry Potter, Tin Tin and Planet of the Apes all got snubbed for various nominations.  These are some of the best movies I saw all year and will be the ones I will remember from here on. 01/27/2012

Here, here - I wholeheartedly agree. I have nothing particularly against War Horse or Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, but seeing movies like Dragon Tattoo and Drive and Ides of March get passed is just baffling to me.

I also don't know what Hollywood's problem is with motion capture, but both Tintin and Andy Serkis were pretty much disqualified because of some aversion to the medium.

I think I'm more excited to see what Billy Crystal comes up with for the opening number rather than who wins this year.

I didn't like 50/50 at all and was shocked as to why it was up for globe. I obviously think drive is the best movie this year, though I have yet to see ides or a few others. They will never make everyone happy but looking at the history, they often get the winner right, though the last 5 or so years are debateable, especially the last 2 in my opinion. 01/28/2012

Yes, the last two years were a big mixed bag.  I'm also looking forward to Billy Crystal hosting.  There's been a drought of good hosts for awhile and he could make this year's show more entertaining.  Anything is better than last year's hosts (no offense to Hathaway and Franco). 01/28/2012

I think that there were a lot of really great movies that did not recieve nominations.  I'm wondering what movies you think should have gotten nnominations that didn't.
Some that I think were overlooked are Melancholia, Martha Marcy May Marlene, Oranges and Sunshine, and Hanna.
