If the Dark Knight wins best picture I'm never watching the Academy Awards as long as I live.
Well, there's a lot of good choices. In Bruges was a good one, I heard good things about Changeling, I'm impressed by Robert Downey Jr. in Iron Man and Tropic Thunder, and there's a few others coming out later this year that look promising within their own genre; Burn After ReadingGhost TownThe DuchessIgorEagle EyeBody of LiesInto the StormMilk, The Day the Earth Stood StillDefiance, and the list just goes on.

I agree with Kat79. If Dark Knight wins or if Ledger himself wins then it really just shows that the Academy can't get anything correct.
Here is my best of 2008 (of movies I have seen)

From all the movies I've seen in theaters this year so far, "The Dark Knight" and "WALL-E" are the only ones, I think, that deserve some Oscar gold.

The Dark Knight NEEDS to  be nominated. If the Academy wants high ratings, they could nomiante "The Dark Kinght" and get their highest ratings in ten years. What Oscars had the highest ratings? The Oscars that had "Titanic" nominated and winning. So the Academy would pretty darn stupid not to nomiante "The Dark Knight", plus it has been the best movie of the year so far, so why not?

If I was the academy I wouldn't be concerned about the academy awards.  Those still sell big time ads since you can't DVR the broadcast and see a live version.

If they want high ratings, they should pour some money into nominated film's budget - so that more people know and hear about them.  This will get people interested in the flicks.  Just my opinion.

I am not sure of what is coming out and what has great potential to be nominated.  You guys?

I have heard a lot about "The Wrestler" (in fact, we have a review for it already).  The ones mentioned above also seem worthy.  I really hope to see something ground breaking this year but am not sure.  Last year there were several movies that made my top 100. Not sure about this year.  In any case - you can read the wrestler review here:

The Dark Knight will get something to reward it for being the second highest grossing film of all time. Let's not forget the Academy's generosity to the LOTR films, all three, for their economic earnings.

Wall-E for best animated!
