Wes Craven probably had more of an impact on my love for horror films than any other person. I distinctly remember my babysitter watching Nightmare on Elm Street when he was there (I would have been around 6 at the time) and being utterly terrified of what I saw. I had actual nightmares for weeks to follow - but, man, did it ever spark a life-long interest in being scared. Now that a true Master of Horror has passed on, celebrate by being scared all over again:

The film that started it all is still on of the most brutal and uncomfortable films I have watched. It's hard to call this a "good" films - but for pure impact, you're hard-pressed to find another horror film that lands a punch like this one.

Freddy Krueger - a horror icon that stands with the best of them. Though the sequels might have gotten corny, the original is still a classic and, lest we forget, introduced us to a young man named Johnny Depp.

A dark horror/comedy featuring the most messed-up family this side of Texas Chainsaw Massacre - and this is suburbia, not some Texas backwoods home. It's strange and wonderful.

Ah, the meta-horror film that started it all. Though many have copied it, the original Scream (let's just set  the sequels aside) was a breath of fresh air - and has even spawned a new MTV series. How's that for longevity?

More of a thriller than a horror - it keeps the tension high throughout and even though I was expecting something different, Red Eye is still the last, great Craven film.
