My favorite TV show ever was Homicide: Life on the Street
It was everything a show should be, best stories, a feel of being there, humor and pathos... it was beautiful.
And one stand out thing about it, was that it was completely integrated in an entirely unselfconscious way!
The main characters were not only a balanced mix racially, but two of the highest ranking characters were black... but without any contrived or artificial set-up for it being that way or neon sign-pointing at the fact, it just was that way in that particular world and it felt natural... as have other shows in which the top ranking characters have been white.
I felt that it was perhaps an honest mirror of Baltimore...
And the characters were totally relatable and lovable and real and the actors who played them were absolutely the best!
My favorite moment in the show was when Pembleton (Andre Braugher) got into full dress uniform to salute the body of Croscetti (Jon Polito) whose casket and funeral were not being given full honors for Crosetti's service as he had committed some unfortunate act at the end of his life and career, but Pembleton wasn't going to let that pass as a statement about the whole man.
Great show. Golden. |

I agree that Dexter is by far a stand out. Unmatchable character development. Every season seems more unreasonable than the last yet somehow it's all so believable. Best drama ever!
However, I do have to compliment the new Sherlock series even though it is a pathetically short 3 episodes. I've been a fan of Sherlock Holmes my whole life and this is by far the most entertaining rendition. Benedict Cumberbatch does an amazing job depicting Holmes's bouts of restlessness, depression, and conniving trouble-making. I can't wait to see more. |

Wait, I can't believe I didn't mention my all time favorite show:
NORTHERN EXPOSURE!!!!
I've lived in Alaska and the eccentric, quirkiness of the characters and the ridiculous plots are so true. |
