The Best Original Score is next:

The winner is The Grand Budapest Hotel - Alexandre Desplat has been a long-time nominee and finally a first-time winner. Good on him - and, by my count, Grand Budapest has by far the most awards for the night. Even if it misses out on the big prizes, it makes me very happy it has earned so many.

Lady Gaga is certainly a... unique choice for a Sound of Music tribute, but she has the pipes. 02/22/2015

The next award for Best Original Song:

Glory from Selma - this was almost also pretty much a given. I have yet to see Selma, but it's on my must-see list.

The next award for Best Film Editing

The Oscar goes to: Whiplash - which is undeniably a good film, but Boyhood was filmed over 12 YEARS - editing that into a feature film I have to imagine moved mountains. Oh well, good for Whiplash.

We move on to Best Cinematography

The winner here is Birdman - I have yet to see this one (though I want to). We'll see if this is a preview for things to come.

The next award is for Best Production Design:

The Grand Budapest Hotel - given how detailed Wes Anderson films tend to be, this is another deserving award.

Best Animated Feature Film:

Big Hero 6 - eh, the movie was OK, but it was a weak year for (domestic) animation. Without The Lego Movie, it's hard to call this a win and, in my opinion, The Tale of Princess Kaguya should have won, hands down, as it was not only my favorite animated film of the year but (as of right now) my highest-rated film of 2014.

Best Animated Short (and yay, for short presenters)

Feast  - the only one I saw (by benefit of playing before Big Hero 6).
