The first Alien was horrific for NOT having answers -- it was like a Lovecraftian nightmare, revealing to us a universe that has such dark corners. Creatures that seem engineered for our doom. Prometheus is the flip side -- it purports to be a story about explanations, about sources, about a creative force. And it fails to deliver (in the plot sense) on that. The characters are on a quest that is not resolved. It fails as a Hollywood feature. It might work as the first episode in an HBO show. |

I don't think Prometheus utterly failed - I'm not saying I wanted everything explained to me, either, but I just feel like the entire thing was planned with a sequel in mind, and not as a stand-alone film. Blade Runner doesn't provide all the answers, either, but that film doesn't feel like it needs three other movies to make things clear. Granted, how many different cuts of Blade Runner are out there now? |

I've pondered Prometheus's questions for the past few days and have come to this conclusion. I think the film's strength lies in it's core idea of searching for the answer to the creation of human life. It accurately represents our own uncertainty to this subject and the main point being that no matter what we do find, we will never get the real answers we longed for. |

Good perspective - if they don't end up making a sequel, I'm going to stick with your observations on the matter. |

I went into the movie not looking for answers but looking for a unique sci fi movie. I got it. There are definite flaws and some silly scenes that I could live without (the last 10 seconds were pointless) but it was extremely well acted and had more story than the original Alien could ever of had no matter how you slice it. |

Guys, I took this movie to be about the hazards of looking for big answers. Not getting them at the end was kind of the whole point. If you didn't understand that, you really should work on your viewing comprehension skills.
Also, they DID answer most of the questions raised (who created us, why, when, how). They just didn't answer one or two questions (why did the Engineers change their mind and what does the black goo do -- neither of which we questions posed at the BEGINNING at the movie, but rather towards the END, setting up the sequel).
I'm flabbergasted how many otherwise intelligent people didn't understand this movie simply because the characters were confused. The characters weren't able to explain what was going on, but the movie made it perfectly clear, I think.
And the last 10 seconds of the movie definitely made me cringe a bit on first viewing. Now I realize that Ridley put the essential puzzle piece at the very end (spoiler): If the humans and Engineers are genetically identical, then whatever was birthed from them and killed them 2,000 years ago on that planet was the same creature -- the xenomorph from 'Alien'. Missing piece of the puzzle. |

I can't believe you guys liked this movie. It was such a failure, and it shrinks in my mind even more as time passes. |
