I'm really looking forward to this one. At some point JJ Abrams left the prject, but I'm really glad he decided to take up the director's chair.

Not sure if they'll still meet the current release date, since filming only
began this month, but who knows.

I, for one, have a great idea for a possible ending for this one. At the conclusion of the film, the U.S.S Enterprise receives a distress call
in the outer reaches of space, originating from the Botany Bay.

Was the first one really that good? I hope they can leave some of the cheese out and develop a better flowing story this time around. It has potential. I love Star Trek but not the recent one. 11/19/2011

Latest is that Peter Weller has signed on in an unspecified role, but it got me thinking that the former RoboCop might make for an interesting choice for a possible villain.
We'll see...

He would be a good fit for the series - he has the experience and talent and it's been too long since he's been given a meaty film role. I didn't have a problem with the Star Trek movie - though the whole time travel plot device just seems like a convenient way to mess with the whole mythology. Still, the pacing was excellent and the cast spot on (though I'm having trouble seeing how Simon Pegg transforms into James Doohan). Hopefully with casting coming along, they develop a decent story to go with it. 01/03/2012

I agree. Of all the casting in the previous film, Simon Pegg was the only one who felt a little out of place. Still, overall casting on that one was great, so hopefully it'll remain so for the next one.

The time travel plot device was actually, in my opinion, a stroke of brilliance. It allowed the writers to not be chained to any previous mythology that might conflict with the series or even trouble fans.

I don't wanna burst any bubbles, but I here that benedict cumberbath is not playing "khan"... now they r saying "gary mitchell"... but he doesn't look anything like the "gary mitchell" character... I think that its all lies! He does however look A LOT LIKE THE CMDR DECKER CHARACTER from the episode "the doomsday machine"..... 07/13/2012

They've been pretty tight-lipped about this sequel. I guess it comes down to how much you can trust a jet-lagged Karl Urban as he's the only one who has said that Cumberbatch is playing Mitchell.

Still, I was still kind of hoping for Khan, though that has been pretty much debunked at this time. I thought the relaunch of the series worked well and I'm interested to see where they go from here (less lens flare this time, please).

The sequel officially has a name and it looks to be taking a, well, darker turn than most of the other films. Hopefully they cut down on the lens flare this time too.

I doubt they cut out the lens flare - that's his style but hopefully they cut out the bad cheesiness  of the first one. The beaming of Scotty into the water tunnel almost ruined the movie for me.  09/11/2012
