'Godzilla VS. Kong' delivers exactly what it says on the tin. Everything on a technical standpoint is fantastic. The visual effects, bright warm colors, and the stand off between these monster legends is spectacular. Everything else, on the other hand, leaves much to be desired.

Action packed addition to the Monster-Verse franchise. It wastes no time and the monster fights are spectacular. Human cast isn't necessarily memorable but none of them annoyed me. Adam Wingard can certainly direct a big budget blockbuster it seems.

80% of the movie is close up shots of this Asian girl or the girl from stranger things. They definitely took liberties with the story. At sometimes becoming preposterous even for a sci fi monster movie. The human characters are irrelevant but for some reason thr story keeps focusing on them, despite nothing important or memorable happening. Plot points were borrowed liberally from the Transformers franchise. With the obligatory team of kids uncovering the villains lair, or stopping the rampage at the end with a dumb plot mechanic during the final battle. If you like the Transformers movies you'll probably enjoy this.

Shock the Monkey to Life!

I truly love predictable actioners, the sort that make no sense and wink at you to let you know you're allowed to check your brain in at the door.

However, this one refused to wink.

Even when the title character was being defibrillated by flying airbus, the soundtrack refused to play Peter Gabriel.

Instead, the whole time it was making unblinking eye contact and telling me I should be taking this very, very seriously. That's a dangerous suggestion, given that the visuals broadcast the film is not a comedy and the script makes no sense.

As it was, I spent the whole film trying to absorb both, which is difficult because the film puts them in competition with each other.

To point, either the script or the visuals could be missing, and you can still follow the plot, but …

This Monster Clash is a Popcorn Smash

Chris Kavan - wrote on 04/09/2021

After a full year of mostly empty theaters and very few "big" movies, Godzilla vs. Kong has been the first true blockbuster in a long time. And why not? The film has everything you expect from a popcorn flick: giant monsters beating the crap out of each other, lots of explosions, humor, precocious children, questionable physics, questionable ethics and monsters beating the crap out of human hubris. I mean - yes - this is exactly the type of movie we need to usher people back into normalcy.

Godzilla vs. Kong is the kind of film that isn't deep, but is pure entertainment. A sequel to both Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla: King of the Monsters, we enter a brave new world were Kong is kept in a giant habitat (one he seems quite eager to escape) in order to avoid the wrath of …
