A frustratingly empty obligation to further Disney's crusade of remakes, this version of "The Lion King" comes up short with passionless voice-acting, dull covers of classic songs, and emotionless CGI animals.

A souless cash grab. I can't believe this made 1 billion at the box office. Like why? It's literally the same movie! Some of the voice acting wasn't that good, especially Beyoncé who's extremely bad here. Chiwetel Ejiofor is a great actor, but he was painfully miscast as Scar. They should've just brought back Jeremy Irons. Mufasa death scene was pretty laughable. The visual effects on the animals may look photorealistic and amazing, but soul and heart isn't there. Overall rating: Can you feel the love this evening?

The Lion King Comes Full Circle

Disney continues to hone their skill at re-releashing their animated catalog into live-action remakes with The Lion King being their most ambitious - and divisive release - to date. As stunning as this version of The Lion King looks - pushing the boundaries of what CGI can accomplish, I cannot but still fault it for losing out on some of the charm and wonder the original animated version holds.

The Lion King is not quite a shot-for-shot remake of the animated film - the hyenas are definitely more brutal, some things have been incorporated from the Broadway show and there are new extended scenes as well as dialogue changes. But there are still a lot of similarities and perhaps my biggest complaint with the film is I wish director Jon Favreau had taken a bigger chance with deviating …

Circle of Life. Another Disney remake. It's fine.

Jon Favreau delivers a good remake of a beloved animated classic.
The visual effects and the CGI characters are incredible. Just when you think they cannot push the boundaries of mo-cap technology, they do it again. The meat of the story is the same as the original film with some minor adjustments.
Scar gets more nastier thanks to Chiwetel Ejiofor's voicework but the charm from Jeremy Irons is lost. Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner are great fits as Timon and Pumba. Donald Glover is alright as Simba but Beyonce shines as Nala. It's great to hear James Earl Jones' voice again as Mufasa.
The action scenes are surprisingly brutal even for a PG rating. The pacing is good despite it being two hours. The hyenas are far more menacing and scary looking in this incarnation.
It maintains the …

My Box Office Prediction

Opening: $200 Million
Domestic: $612 Million
Overseas: $1,115 Billion
Worldwide: $1,727 Billion

My Say: 1994’s The Lion King is Disney’s most famous film, Though a Remake wasn’t quite necessary, This film will be massive because of my first point, as well as a very good cast.
