Plot: Inside an ultra-orthodox Jewish community in Brooklyn, Menashe is widower and, based on that community, his son is given to his brother-in-law to be raised until he re-marries. But Menashe was unhappy with his first marriage, and doesn't find a connection with any of the women around him. While his brother-in-law berates him, and he struggles with a job he hates, he will not give up on his son. -- Chris Kavan

Although set within a small and exclusive community, what it has to say is universal. That the importance of understanding and a parents' love for their child exists across all cultures.
