The film itself is charming and full of Irish-inspired humor, but I felt like it glossed over certain stormy parts of Wayne & O'Hara's budding relationship too quickly and neatly (such as her quick acceptance of his marriage proposal,) and was unevenly paced so that the conflict never quiet built in a steady manner. |

Marriage is a stormy, windy, bumpy and passionate endeavor and this film perfectly captures that with good humor. The kinship of the cast and crew create something amazing. Too many memorable, genius scenes to list, all the way to the ending scene with those whispered words. Just perfect. |

A change of pace for the Duke, as he plays a retired boxer trying to settle down in Ireland into a peaceful married life, with mixed results. Took a couple of viewings but I warmed up to it. The Irish scenery is quite lovely. |

A retired boxer finds love and happiness back home in Ireland, that's the main plot-line, but the best part is John Wayne facing his past during the climax. It's not Wayne's best film, but this is a change because it's not a western See it |

My favorite John Wayne movie!!! |
|
Not only is this film a wonderful display of cinematography and acting clout, it also brings to the screen a great story--what movie-making is all about. John Ford wasn't concerned with demographics, box office sales, or action figure revenues. He just wanted to tell some really good stories. And The Quiet Man does just that. With the on-screen chemistry between Wayne and O'Hara, the farcical comedy of Barry Fitzgerald and the breathtaking landscape on which they are filmed, Ford (who received an Oscar for Best Director for this project) draws you into his world of hard-work, good times and tremendous passion. Ireland has seldom been captured in such a beautiful or accurate way since and (seeing as it was the first American film to be shot in Ireland) displays a world that few have been p... |
