Neil LaBute often showcases the darker side of human nature in his films. This one is disappointing because it is a typical "love" story connected by the past and present. I love Gwyneth Paltrow but I think this is one of her most lame-brained performances. I wasn't captivated with her relationship with Aaron Eckhart nor was I interested in her character. In fact, I thought everyone was boring and weak. Also, the sequences that involved jumping from one time period to the next was not fully realized. Just when the audiences are truly getting to know each character's motivations, the film jumps to the past or the present. It was frustrating to say the least.
