Mediocre "cops and robbers" action thriller starring Eddie Murphy and the always underrated Michael Wincott as his nemesis. Highlights include a harrowing streetcar chase through downtown San Francisco and a pretty solid opening showcasing Eddie Murphy's prowess as a negotiator. But the movie is chock-full of plot holes and does not really add anything new. For a comedy, people may be surprised by the graphic violence and gruesome death toll.

A typical dim-witted action movie that is actually much better than you'd think, especially considering the starring role is filled by Murphy who surely hasn't made a decent live action film since Beverly Hills Cop. The set pieces are well done, particularly a thrilling chase sequence involving a tram, and Michael Wincott is the best psychotic villain this side of Gary Oldman. Brainless but fun.
