Decent biopic of the early skateboard scene held aloft thanks to the late, great Heath Ledger who turns in the best performance. As others have said, the movie loses steam about halfway through. Still an interesting, if flawed film. |

Heath Ledger gives an outstanding performance. This movie could have been terrible but it was far from it. I was really interested in each character. I love the way they shot the film. The story kept me involved the entire time. It is very raw, daring, and emotional. |

Lords of Dogtown |

The best part of this movie is easily heath ledger, he nails skip's character and voice. Ledger's preformace saved this movie from being a lot worse. The beginning held promise, but the plot and thought slowly left throughout the movie. This movie tried too hard to be popular and it might have been better if they keep the indie, underground culture in mind and making it a more independent type movie. |

Likeable But Widely Uneven |
|
I was debating whether to give this a three stars out of four because I really liked a lot of the elements that worked with this movie. For instance, I did buy who the characters were, where they lived, the time period, what they love doing, and the changes they went through after skateboarding went mainstream. Plus, I thought Heath Ledger was so interesting in this film. He made me laugh because of the way he talked and his mannerisms. I liked all that... but I can't quite give it another star because I feel like this film is widely uneven. The grittiness that I admired during the first hour quickly dissipated half-way through it. The skateboarding stunts made me try to not look away from the screen but that, too, got uninteresting as it went along. It's uncommon for me to get movies tha... |

Great for the Skateboard Enthusiast |
|
I liked this movie a lot but I also am a huge fan of skateboarding and found the story of the origins of it very interesting. As for the acting and directing they are mediocre at best, although Heath Ledger is very good. If you are not a fan of skateboarding I would recommend skipping this movie but if you have ever wanted to see where it all started this is a movie for you.
