Plot Outline:

Nebbish rent-a-cop John Brown clings to life after he's mangled in an explosion perpetrated by the iniquitous Dr. Claw. But robotics expert Brenda Bradford comes to his rescue and replaces his limbs with a cornucopia of gadgets. Transformed into crime-fighting machine, the newly-created Inspector Gadget vows to bring down Dr. Claw.

Not great, but somewhat resembling the show

Okay, this movie is EXACTLY what I expected. I was a huge fan of the cartoon (and of Get Smart as well) as a young child, and had some hopes for this film. I expected the kid stuff, it is, after all, a Disney movie, but that was outweighed by the thrill of seeing the Inspector himself in live action. The casting was pretty much on target. Matthew Broderick provided a well enough Gadget, however he needed a little more development. He goes from champion of justice to bumbling idiot just a little to quickly. These aspects should have been blended a little more. Rupert Everett played a perfectly diabolical Claw. Dabney Coleman and Cheri Oteri needed way more screen time than they got, as their's were the most enjoyable characters. Michelle Trachtenberg played Penny very well, but her role as...
