Well what does this remake of a classic horror film have? Catherine Zeta Jones playing a lesbian but never engaging in lesbian sex, Liam Neeson giving the worst performance of his career (Before Taken 2 that is), and Owen Wilson getting decapitated by a fireplace shaped like a lion's head. What else can I possibly say?

The film is about four people find themselves in an old mansion to take part in an experiment of the supernatural. This movie has awful visual effect's and laughable scares.

A dreck of a remake that just serves up some 'boo' scares and lame CGI effects.

The 1963 original (also based off Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House) is vastly superior (three and a half stars, classic b&w horror).

Liam, What were you thinking?

A doctor called David Morrow played by Liam Neeson is arranging a study about the process of fear under the guise of sleep disorder sessions. He takes his subjects Eleanor (Lili Taylor), Theo (Zeta-Jones) and Luke (Owen Wilson) to a creepy house to frighten them but finds that the house is genuinely haunted. All in all an entertaining film that could have been even scarier, if they had put some more weight on the psychological thrills.

The special effects were one of the redeeming parts of the movie as the house was brought to life like nothing else along with the acting of Lili Taylor. The buildup of the story was done nicely but it became absurd as we begin to find out how Eleanor is connected to the House. Sultry Catherine Zeta-Jones is beautiful as always but I was expecting a lot ...
