I really wanted this to work - and it has such a talent, young cast - Anya Taylor-Joy, Maise Williams, Charlie Heatona, Henry Zaga and relative newcomer Blu Hunt - but trying to tow the line between Breakfast Club drama and PG-13 "horror" (mostly cheap jump scares and questionable CG villains) it never gels. It took so long to get to the big screen - maybe it should have just quietly faded away.

An uncinematic, bastardized spin-off of a waning franchise, the long delayed "The New Mutants" should have been left on the shelf to rot.
